ABOUT THE TEACHER
My name is Evelyn Saavedra and I am the creator of “Dame Cinco” Spanish Program. I was born and raised in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, where I lived until the summer of 2010. I am a Native Spanish Speaker and learned English throughout high school and college.
I attended “The National Pedagogic University” in Honduras and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Bilingual Education. I also hold a Minnesota Teaching License in Early Education through 3rd Grade and in Spanish Language.
My first experience teaching was in 2003 as an English Preschool Teacher and the best journey in my professional life started. My mission has always been to provide high quality education to my students, and also build a strong relationship between the children and I. I worked for 7 years at a distinguished private school in Honduras teaching English in the Elementary level.
I moved to the United States and settled in Minnesota in 2010. Being away from family members and friends, it has been a challenge but it has made me who I am as a person and as an educator.
I worked at an Accredited Early Childhood Center for 4 years as a Preschool Teacher including the Spanish language to the curriculum.
In 2016, I got a job as a Spanish Immersion First Grade Teacher in Minnetonka Schools, being the greatest accomplishment in my professional career.
I love teaching for many reasons, the most important is the big impact we do in children’s lives. Being a teacher is definitely a rewarding job that gives me the opportunity to motivate and engage children to learn a foreign language, helping them to develop their knowledge, skills and understanding of a different language and culture.
